Ruto Fires Back at Critics Over Economy: ‘The Truth Is Stubborn

President Ruto Defends His Government, Tells Off Critics Over Economy

President William Ruto has come out strongly to defend his administration amid growing criticism, particularly regarding the state of Kenya’s economy. Speaking at State House, Nairobi, during the official launch of the Affordable Housing Internship Programme, the Head of State addressed his opponents head-on, asserting that progress is being made despite political noise.

‘The truth is very stubborn. You can say all the lies you want, but the truth will not change. Our dollar was 165, and now it is 130,’ President Ruto stated firmly, drawing a clear line between what he termed as misinformation and actual economic progress.

The president’s remarks come at a time when the opposition has intensified its attacks on the Kenya Kwanza government, blaming it for the high cost of living, inflation, and what they describe as a struggling economy. However, Ruto insisted that his government is on the right path and that the gains made—though not always publicized—are real and measurable.

In a move to defend the economy and inspire public confidence, the president assured Kenyans that meaningful change is underway. He dismissed the notion that dramatic or supernatural interventions are needed to fix the country, instead encouraging patience and long-term vision.

“We don’t need miracles. This country is going to change. Watch this space — in the next 10 to 15 years,” Ruto added, suggesting that his administration’s efforts will bear fruit in the years to come.

The Affordable Housing Internship Programme, which he launched during the event, is one of the flagship initiatives of the Kenya Kwanza administration. It aims to empower young professionals through hands-on training in the construction and housing sector, while simultaneously boosting the government’s affordable housing agenda.

President Ruto has repeatedly positioned housing, job creation, and economic stability as top priorities for his government. Despite challenges and criticism from various quarters, he has maintained that Kenya is on a recovery path that requires both structural reforms and public patience.

As the political temperature rises and economic pressure continues, Ruto’s message appears aimed at reasserting control over the public narrative and reassuring citizens that his leadership has a long-term plan for transformation—grounded not in political promises, but in measurable outcomes.
