Martha Karua Ready to Face President Ruto in 2027 Presidential Race

Martha Karua has declared her intention to face President William Ruto in the 2027 presidential race. Speaking to Kenyans living in Seattle, USA, Karua expressed her interest in vying for the presidency for the second time—the first being in 2013.

‘I am vying for the presidency. I’m done with the running mate business,’ Karua said.

Karua joined former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on his U.S. tour, where he is seeking to convince Kenyans in the diaspora to join his efforts in making President Ruto a one-term to leave office in  2027.

Karua’s declaration may spark mixed reactions within the opposition. This comes amid speculation that Kalonzo Musyoka, who has supported Raila Odinga for more than ten years, is also eyeing the presidency. Additionally, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, seen as a rising force, has been gaining significant support from the youth, especially the so-called Gen Zs.

‘Even if Kasongo becomes the IEBC chairman, we will still defeat them,’ Karua added.

Gachagua, regarded as a kingmaker in the opposition, has stated that they will unite behind one candidate to challenge President Ruto in the 2027 general election.

If Martha Karua is successful in winning the presidency in 2027, she will become the first woman president in Kenya and the second woman president in East Africa.
