MP Jayne Kihara: Ruto Has Not Lived Up to Expectations

Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara has expressed frustration with President William Ruto’s leadership, saying he has failed to meet the expectations that propelled him to power. Speaking on K24 TV, Kihara pointed to broken promises and lost direction.

“The President went to State House. I thought he would sit in State House and fix things the way we were saying, the way we were telling people,” she said, referencing the message Kenya Kwanza leaders shared with voters during the 2022 campaign.

Kihara, a known ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has remained firm in her loyalty. Her comments are viewed as part of a growing discontent among leaders who feel sidelined since the fallout between Ruto and Gachagua became public.

Kihara’s remarks come just days after her brief arrest after for caling out the government. The arrest has only sharpened her tone, with observers noting that she is increasingly aligning herself with voices questioning the current administration’s direction.

While Kihara did not cite specific failures, her words reflect a widening rift in the coalition and echo sentiments shared by several Mt. Kenya leaders still loyal to Gachagua.

As Kenya inches closer to the 2027 elections, such bold public statements could mark the beginning of new political realignments. Whether President Ruto will respond or seek to mend ties with disgruntled allies like Kihara remains unclear.
